14th May 2010 - Elise on maternity leave and ramblings!

My fellow much loved chiropractor Elise is now on maternity leave. Elise only has 5 weeks to go till the birth of her third child, so we will keep you all up to date with her progress. On the subject of children - how times have changed... I am sitting here on a Friday night with a glass of wine typing this blog!!!

What a weird few weeks we have had recently.  First the volcanic ash. Then we have the return of winter - freezing. Then we have the election, with what has been an amazing week. I have never known so many people to be gripped by the election campaign. I even had patients having election debate parties (even though they are both American and could not vote). I know politics is supposed to be a taboo subject, but I don't mind sticking my neck out and saying I am personally really pleased with the result and looking forward to new era and way of thinking a coalition government will bring as I like some of the policies of both partiesAnd on the subject of a fresh approach, I really believe things are really starting to change with the approach to healthcare that many of the population take. Health beliefs are very deep rooted and as with a lot of fundamental beliefs, are formed early on mainly as a response to our family beliefs and our society. So although I think the ideals of the NHS are indisputable, I also think free healthcare leads to us basing our treatment on pain rather then prevention, and we resent paying out for our own health. This can mean that we take less responsibility for our health. You only have to ask any health practitioner about what great patients Australians, Kiwis and Americans make. This is because they are usually more  health focused and are used to seeing chiropractors, physios, naturopaths (etc) on a regular basis. However, I really think attitudes are starting to change and more people are starting to accept they have to take responsibility for their own health and that it is a lifelong commitment.

Testimonials

Having previously tried Physiotherapy and Osteopathy for my back pain, Chiropractic has given me the best results in the shortest length of time. The environment and staff are all friendly and professional. Would recommend without hesitation.
